Music

The importance of music as part of the whole child education is valued within the curriculum in each division at St. Andrew’s. From using movement to understand rhythm and melody at the Lower School to performing at the National Cathedral with the Select Choir at the Upper School, students have ample opportunity to explore and excel as musicians.
In their music classes, lower school students are introduced to instruments and musical styles from all over the world. They move expressively, create through composition, and develop an appreciation for global music.

As they move to middle school, opportunities open up to participate in band, orchestra, choir, and percussion. Being part of an ensemble encourages camaraderie and teamwork, and students improve skills in music reading, harmonizing, and maintaining synchronicity.

Upper schoolers have a choice of advanced course offerings like concert band, string orchestra, concert choir, jazz band, and select choir. St. Andrew’s choirs have been invited to perform at events ranging from the Texas Governor’s Inauguration Dinner to Carnegie Hall and our singers are chosen for the TMEA and TPSMEA All-State Choirs and have achieved Superior ratings at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest each year.
