In the Rollins Library, St. Andrew’s Lower and Middle School library, students learn to be life-long readers, independent information seekers, and keen evaluators of information. Step into the library at any time of the day to find students actively engaged in reading and the pursuit of information. They may be conducting research on laptops, poring over reference books, curled with a book in a “comfy chair” or completing homework assignments.
Located in the Lower School, the Library offers places for quiet study and group discussion, computer research, and reading. Parent’s Council uses the Library for “Brown Bag Lunch Presentations”, and it is a convenient meeting place for different school committees. Rollins Library is home to three multimedia classroom areas, a periodical area with comfortable chairs, computer workstations, a laptop cart, the children’s “story time area”, as well as library collections for the Lower and Middle School students, and a professional collection of books for teachers and parents.
Students receive research instruction and reading encouragement in library classes and special visits to the library. Research instruction focuses on helping students develop the skills and strategies to locate and evaluate information from both print and online sources. Children are welcome to check in and check out books before and after school, as well as their scheduled weekly library time. The entire Library’s collection, which includes books, videos, audio books, CDs, DVDs and online databases are available to all students, parents, faculty and staff in the library and through the library pages on the St. Andrew’s Web site. This enables everyone access from both home, school, wherever you and your computer are located.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader quizzes may be found at the Quiz Finder, where you may search for quiz availability by Title, Author, and ISBN. Once you are on the Quiz Finder page, you might want to click on ADVANCED SEARCH to further refine your search based on Reading Level, Point Value, Topic, Interest Level and Genre. Although most of the 100,000+ quizzes are available for testing in our First through Fourth Grades, it is always a good idea to double-check with your teacher to confirm that the book you are reading is appropriate for your reading and interest levels.
If you have questions about how to use the AR Quiz Finder page, please contact Paula Milton by phone (299-9815) or e-mail.
