St. Andrew’s Varsity Football CRUises to Second Straight Win

The St. Andrew’s Crusaders are off to a great start this football season. Two weeks ago on August 31, the Blue Cru shut out Eastside Memorial with a score of  45-0.  Last week Coach Detmer’s squad met the Reagan Raiders on Thursday, September 6, at Nelson Field and dominated 62-14. The balanced offense of this year’s squad is what has made the team so successful thus far.

Brandon Hawkins led the charge on the offensive side of the ball once again running for over 150 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Quarterback Carter Tomsu threw for 212 yards with Rhodes Legg receiving 117 of those yards on 4 catches.  Hawkins scored his touchdowns on runs of 12, 1 ,20 and 34 yards which complimented his 153 yard, two-touchdown shutout against Eastside Memorial.

The Crusaders scored seven touchdowns in their first nine possessions through three quarters.  Tomsu peppered the Raiders throughout the game, passing for touchdowns of 47 and 29 yards.

Cole Baker, a freshman running back and linebacker, scored his first varsity touchdown by scampering 35 yards in the second half.  Robert Hunter, a sophomore, bolted in from 15 out for another score.

The Crusaders have outscored their first two opponents 107-14. They begin conference play this week at St. John’s in Houston.
