Interfaith Studies Class Welcomes Guest Speakers

by Grace Ortman, Religious Studies, English teacher
Students in the Interfaith Studies class at the Upper School met with a series of guest speakers over the past few weeks to conduct interviews about religious and spiritual life in diverse traditions and cultural backgrounds.

Guests included religious leaders and practitioners, from Rabbi Ari Abramowitz skyping in from Jerusalem, to popular Austin-area yoga teacher Andie Gregier. Students even had a chance to interview our own Father Rob Leacock about his childhood and vocation in the Episcopalian tradition.

As part of this series of interviews, a group of four students from Austin Peace Academy visited St. Andrew's on November 4. The students were accompanied by their school religious leader and teacher of Islamic Studies, Sheikh Attia Omara, and by APA's Head of Academics Director Alex Pritchard. The students shared many wonderful and insightful stories about growing up Muslim in America. Four Interfaith Studies students also visited the Austin Peace Academy on November 6 to continue this dialogue.
