The 33rd Annual Latin Banquet was held in Nazro Hall on the afternoon of Sunday, November 15th. For the last few weeks Latin students have been preparing in class to show off their knowledge of Roman clothing, history, culture and mythology.
At the Banquet each student wears a costume according to his or her level of Latin, from servi all the way up to gods and goddesses. Authentic Roman cuisine was served while students played a game that required an understanding of ancient Rome to earn points for their “clans.”
Prior to the Banquet all Latin students were sorted into these six “clan” groups, and students were able to earn points for their “clan” during class in the weeks leading up to the Banquet. Students from the 5th through 12th grades combined their efforts and worked together to triumph in the costume contests and historical game. “It was fun,” said sophomore Jack Guttell, who played the role of Spartacus. In the end the gens Cornelia, or Cornelian clan, was in first place with Aemilia and Marcia in second and third respectively, but all six clans made a good showing.
