Philosophy and Goals

The St. Andrew’s curriculum is both rigorous and comprehensive. It has been crafted to promote the mastery of essential skills and to provide opportunities for students to develop their potential. It also allows teachers to weave in areas of study about which they are particularly knowledgeable or passionate, making for a rich and truly unique educational experience.

  • To teach Christian values and develop Christian character;
  • To insure the mastery of essential skills; to provide for enrichment in all instructional areas;
  • To develop an appreciation for the fine arts;
  • To develop motor skills, physical fitness, and good sportsmanship;
  • To instill a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, and self-respect; and
  • To develop a concern for others through community service.

Lower School Curriculum:  

  • Build a strong foundation in grades one through four utilizing a contained classroom format.
  • In fifth grade, introduce departmentalization, helping students grow as independent learners.
  • Use of a core curriculum of science, math, language arts and social studies.
  • Enriched core curriculum with fine arts, foreign languages, physical education, technology and library skills.

Middle School Curriculum:

  • Prepare students for St. Andrew’s Upper School.
  • Identify students who show the skills and aptitude for high school placement in math and foreign language.
  • Add depth to curriculum through addition of art, drama, music, theology, technology, geography, and health. Include a requirement of participation in physical education or athletics. Add in support of advisory and community service programs help students develop self-awareness and concern for others.

Upper School Curriculum:

  •  Prepare students for the demands of college-level academics.
  • Challenge students intellectually but also help them develop the life skills they need to reach their potential.
  • The key disciplines are the humanities (English and history), math, science, technology, languages, the arts, and athletics.
  • Offer students opportunities to pursue college-level work through Advanced Placement in most disciplines.
