FROM THE UPPER SCHOOL HEAD February 2012
Dear Friends:
The ISAS/SAES Accreditation Team is about to arrive. A group of approximately 20 teachers and administrators will visit with us Sunday, Feb. 12 through Wednesday, Feb. 15 to observe and meet with St. Andrew’s personnel, students, and parents. They will offer commendations about our programs as well as recommendations for improvement.
In other campus news, the Upper School Brown Bag/Parent Education Committee will host Ilana Zivkovich, LMSW, from Austin Recovery on Tuesday, Feb. 7, who will present her program: “Stopping the Cycle Before It Starts: Helping adolescents tackle the temptations of drug and alcohol abuse” in the Dell Library from 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. Ilana will offer strategies for opening up a healthy dialogue within the family, schools, and community, which are keys to helping our young people combat potentially deadly influences.
On Thursday February 2 at 6:30, Director of College Counseling, Elizabeth Guice and all of the college counselors presented College Night for Juniors and Their Parents. Guests gathered first in the Chapel, and then broke into smaller groups for presentations and discussions.
Winter SPC games are scheduled for this week in Houston. Winter sports, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls soccer will attempt to bring back some banners on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11. The St. Andrew’s swim and diving teams competed this past weekend, with a number of swimmers and relay teams garnering all-conference honors. Senior Megan Houston defended her SPC diving crown by nearly 200 points.
Second trimester exams will begin on Tuesday, the 21st and run the rest of the week.
Finally, the winter athletic awards ceremony will take place in the Upper School Chapel on Sunday, February 26 at 1:30 p.m.
We have some wonderful events upcoming on campus, so please join us and be a part of the fun.
Best,
Rich
