Q. How do I REPORT ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE?
A. Parents, please call 299-9700 or e-mail usattendance@sasaustin.org. Please do not call or e-mail a particular person, such as Mrs. Dickson, Ms. Winter, or your student’s advisor. (The phone number is also the front office number.) Please report absences by 8:30 a.m. each day that the student is absent.
Q. I have to LEAVE CAMPUS for an appointment. How do I make sure I'm not "absent-unexcused"?
A. Any time you need to leave campus, your parents must call the school (not your cell phone) or send a note in before you leave. You must sign out at the front office before leaving. If you return to campus during the school day, you must sign in at the front office as soon as you return to campus and before you attend any classes.
Q. I FORGOT TO BRING A NOTE from the doctor's office. Can my parents just call?
A. No. We must have a note from the doctor's office, or you can call your doctor?s office from the front office when you return.
Q. I'm SICK and can't come to school. How do I make sure I'm not "absent-unexcused"?
A. Your parents must call the school office before 9:00 a.m. each morning you are home sick.
Q. I feel bad and want to STAY HOME THIS MORNING and MISS FIRST PERIOD. May I come to school late or attend any after-school activities if I feel better?
A. No. If you are staying home because you feel bad, you must stay home the entire day. You may not participate in or attend any after-school activities. If you are tired and sleeping in, the same holds true. In other words, if you are unable to come to school for first period, you must stay home. The only exception is if you have a doctor/dentist/medical appointment.
Q. I have a FREE PERIOD 1st PERIOD. Do I have to come to school at 8:30 a.m.?
A. Yes. Even if you have a free period 1st period, you must be on campus and signed in at the front office by 8:30 a.m., or you will be marked "absent-unexcused" to 1st period. If you aren't here for first period, you must stay home the entire day (see above).
Q. Do I really have to serve DETENTION if I'm tardy or "absent-unexcused"?
A. You may begin serving detentions on your first “absent-unexcused” to any class, chapel, advisory, clean-up, or community service. You begin serving detentions for being late to class on your fourth “tardy-unexcused” to any class.
Q. DRESS CODE: What's wrong with what I'm wearing? Do I really have to dress up for overnight athletic trips?
A. The dress code is explained under “Dress Code.” in the handbook.
Q. FAMILY TRIPS: My family is taking a trip. How do I make sure I don't get in academic difficulty?
A. Students are allowed two planned absences a year. To get approval for a planned absence, you must complete and submit a Planned Absence Form to the Dean of Students by 9:00am on the day preceeding the first day of the absence. Forms are available at the front desk and from the Dean of Students. For more details, see p. 54 of the Handbook.
Q. May I have a GUEST AT LUNCH?
A. Only if it’s an immediate family member (parent or sibling); s/he must check in at the front desk. The campus is closed to everyone else, including students at area high schools when their schools are closed and St. Andrew’s is in session.
Q. How do I find out if there has been an AFTER-SCHOOL SCHEDULE CHANGE during the day?
A. Cancellation or updates of after-school activities is available by going to our website, www.sasaustin.org, “Community” button – Then choose Upper School – announcements will be on the right. Athletic practice and game changes may also be found in the Athletics section of the website.
Q. When can I use my cell phone?
A. Cell phones may not be used in any way during the school day. Cell phones may be used before or after school. Parents, please assist us with this policy by contacting your student through the front office at 299-9700 rather than calling your student directly during the school day. All phone communications must be conducted through the front office.
