Badgerdog Creative Writing Summer Camp offers a fun and immersive writing experience for kids and preteens. Our two-week workshops are led by professional writers and explore the arts of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and playwriting. Our lessons are creative, surprising, and engaging, and introduce campers to the techniques writers use to communicate ideas clearly and powerfully on the page. Campers will not only grow their confidence as writers, they will also enjoy the freedom to explore the ideas that matter to them most, no matter how wild and unusual.

Badgerdog’s small class size (15 maximum) allow campers to receive individualized attention from a Badgerdog Teaching Artist and make connections with other young writers in the group. All campers experience the full range of the writing process—from brainstorming to drafting to revision, editing, and publication. Our professional-quality summer anthologies showcase the work of all Badgerdog campers and allow them the experience of having their work appear in print. Campers also gain practice reading their work aloud, providing constructive feedback, and performing their work in front of an audience.

Badgerdog provides a rare challenge for avid writers, who get the chance to work with a professional writer who can identify their strengths and areas for growth. Reluctant and resistant writers often shift their perspective in our no-fail, positive environment where messy practice is encouraged and every risk taken is celebrated.

Badgerdog aims to give all young learners the opportunity to experience writing in a way that’s meaningful to them, while also providing tangible strategies for strengthening communication skills on the page. We believe our camp experience helps to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for reading and writing for generations to come.
