Meet our new Chief Academic Officer and Directors of Curriculum and Instruction!
We’re already more than a month into the 2019-2020 school year and it’s off to a great start! This is thanks, in part, to the academic support program that has been rolled out across all three divisions this year.
While Directors of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI's) have been part of the Lower School in years past, the role of Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and DCI's in the Middle and Upper schools were put in place at the start of this year. This team was created to continually improve the already stellar K-12 academic programs we have at SAS. Their collective responsibility is to oversee academics at each division, and support teachers in becoming the best teachers they can be.
The primary goal of the team is to create and enhance cohesion and alignment of curriculum across all grade and division levels, while providing support of teachers through instructional coaching. The team utilizes a research-backed approach to their work in the areas of curriculum and instruction, making sure that what and how they teach aligns with best practices in the field of education.
The team is made up of Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Josh Nelson, pictured with his recently earned PhD diploma, who oversees the four DCI's: Geoff Harrison and Dr. Alexandra Baird in the Lower School, Mark Richards in the Middle School and Mily Perez in the Upper School. Their work will all look a little bit different due to the unique developmental needs associated with the ages of learners within each of the three divisions, but they are all working toward a common goal. They meet weekly as a team to engage in discourse about the entire K-12 academic program. We’re so lucky to have them here, and very excited to see all the good work they will do!
Located in Austin, Texas, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is a private co-ed elementary, middle and high school for grades K-12. Students benefit from dedicated faculty, a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
