How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to St. Andrew's!

To learn more about the application process, please click on the appropriate division below. You can also download the Application Process Checklist by clicking on the "Downloads" button below. Please note that the application process may vary depending on grade level. 

The online application for the 2018-2019 school year is available beginning September 15th. Priority is given to completed applications received by February 1, 2018. Admission decisions will be announced through our online portal on March 2, 2017. After the deadline, applications are accepted on a rolling admission basis, if space is available.  

No matter where you are in the application process, we encourage you to contact the Admissions Office with any questions you may have.

Lower School Application Process

  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade

    Age Eligibility
    Kindergarten: A child must turn 5 by September 1 of  his/her starting year. 1st Grade: A child must turn 6 by September 1 of his/her starting year.
    If you have questions related to age or grade placement, please contact the Lower School Admissions office. 

    1. The Online Application
    To apply, click on the yellow “apply online here” button, located on this page. You will be asked to create a personal account with mySAS. Once your online application form has been submitted and the $100 application fee has been processed, you will be able to track your status by logging into your account and reviewing your online checklist.
     
    If the $100 application fee presents a hardship for your family, please contact Priscilla Lund to request a fee waiver. The application fee is waived for families that also plan to apply for financial aid.
     
    2. Teacher Recommendation Form
    The teacher recommendation form is available through the online checklist. Please log into mySAS and click on your student’s name (or hover over “children” if you have multiple students applying). Click on the highlighted “Teacher Recommendation” link and fill in the appropriate information. St. Andrew’s requests that your child’s current teacher complete a recommendation form. The teacher will submit the completed form directly to St. Andrew’s.

    3.  School records/transcript
    The Transcript Release Form can also be found on the online checklist. Please log into mySAS and click on your student’s name (or hover over “children” if you have multiple students applying). Click on the highlighted “School Records” link and download the document. Fill in the required information and submit the form to the school registrar. Your student’s school will send all records directly to St. Andrew’s.
     
    4. The Parent Interview
    Parents are required to visit with a member of the Admissions team or with the Lower School Head. After your online application form has been submitted, a member of the admissions team will contact you to help set up your interview. Parent interviews begin in November and end in mid-February.
                                                                                                                                  
    5. Applicant classroom visit
    Applicants come in for a class visit conducted by St. Andrew’s faculty and staff. During this visit, we seek to learn more about your child’s learning style, personality, and school readiness. Our teachers will assess language and math ability, social and emotional skills, fine and gross motor skills, and group interaction. In January, the Admissions Office will notify you of your child’s assigned visit day, from the dates listed below:   
    • Saturday, January 28, 2017
    • Saturday, February 4, 2017
    • Saturday, February 11, 2017
  • 2nd - 5th Grade

    1. The Online Application

    4. Applicant Assessment/Visit
    Once the application form has been received, we will contact you to arrange for your child’s assessment and/or visit. Applicants to 2nd grade tour the campus with a member of the Admissions team and then take a brief reading and math assessment. Applicants to 3rd through 5th grade visit with their peer group (applicants to 3rd grade will visit with second graders, etc.) for half a day and take a reading and math assessment. Your child will participate in daily activities so that we get to know him/her in a classroom setting. The information gathered during this visit helps the Admissions Committee ensure that a child is a good fit for St. Andrew’s. Student visits begin in November.
                                                                                                                                  
    5. Parent Interview (optional)
    Parents of second through fifth grade applicants are welcome to meet with a member of the Admissions Team. This is not a required component of the application process. If you would like to meet with a member of the admissions team to talk about your student or ask any questions, please contact the Admissions Office. Parent interviews begin in November.  
     

Middle School Application Process

  • 6th - 8th Grade

    1. The Online Application

    Applicants to the 6th grade are required to submit one recommendation form from their current homeroom teacher.
    Applicants to the 7th/8th grade are required to submit a recommendation form from their current English teacher and current math teacher.
     
    3.  School Records/Transcript

    4.  ISEE Test
    Applicants are required to take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). To select a testing location and register for this test, visit the Educational Records Bureau website:  www.iseetest.org. The St. Andrew’s test code is: 447532.
    Note: Testing is offered on the St. Andrew’s Upper School campus on Saturday, December 3, 2016 and Saturday, January 21, 2017.
     
    5. Parent Interview
    Prospective Middle School parents are required to visit with a member of the admissions team, the Middle School Head, or the Middle School Dean of Students. After your application has been submitted, a member of the admissions team will contact you to help set up an interview time, typically on the same day as the student shadow visit. Interviews begin in mid-October and run through the end of January.

    We are happy to arrange for a phone, Skype, or GoogleHangout interview for those applying from out of town.
     
    6.  Student Shadow Visit and Interview
    Once your application has been received, a member of the admissions team will contact you to arrange for a time for your child to visit the school. Applicants will shadow a student in the grade to which they are applying.  Applicants to 6th grade will shadow a current 6th grader, applicants to 7th grade will shadow a current 7th grader, and applicants to 8th grade will shadow a current 8th grader. The purpose of this visit is for your child to get a sense of our community and for our teachers to get to know your child in a classroom setting. The information gathered during this visit helps the Admissions Committee ensure that a child is a good fit for St. Andrew’s. Student visits begin in mid-October and run through the end of January.

    During the course of the visit, prospective students will interview with a member of the admissions team, the Middle School Head, or the Middle School Dean of Students.  
     
  • ISEE Testing

    Applicants are required to take the national Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). To select a testing location and to register, please visit the Educational Records Bureau website. The St. Andrew's test code is 447532. 

    Note: Testing is offered on the St. Andrew's Upper School campus (5901 Southwest Parkway) on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and Saturday, January 20, 2018. Check-in on these test dates is 7:30am.

Upper School Application Process

  • 9th - 12th Grade

    The Online Application
    To apply, click on the yellow Apply Online Here button at the top of this page.  You will be asked to create a log in with mySAS. Once your online application has been submitted, you will be able to track your status by logging into your account and reviewing your online checklist.
     
    Teacher Recommendation Forms
    The teacher recommendation form is available through the online checklist. Please log into mySAS and click on your student’s name (or hover over “children” if you have multiple students applying). Click on the highlighted “Teacher Recommendation” link and fill in the appropriate information. A teacher recommendation from your child’s current English and current Math teacher is required. The teacher will submit the completed form directly to St. Andrew’s.
     
    Transcript
    We require your child’s current year transcript and the past two years.  Please open your online checklist and click on the link to send the request form to your school's registrar. 
     
    ISEE Test
    Applicants are required to take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE).     Applicant Prepared Essay
    Applicants are required to complete one of two essay prompts which are listed in the check list items as part of your Admission Portal. Once you log in, you will be able to see the prompts as well as upload your completed essay.
     
    Parent Interview
    Parents of applicants to grades 9-12 are required to make an appointment with a member of the Upper School Admissions Team. Once you have submitted the Online Application, a member of the Admissions Team will send you an email with a link to sign up for your parent interview. Parent interviews can be combined with the applicant’s shadow visit and begin in mid-October.
     
    Student Shadow visit and Interview
    Prospective students are encouraged to spend part of a morning or afternoon visiting classes with a current Upper School student to get a good feel for the teachers, students, and campus life. Shadowing is offered Monday – Friday beginning in mid-October from either 10:15am-1:50pm or 11:30am-2:50pm. To schedule your student's Shadow Visit, please fill out the form that will be shared with your family upon receipt of the online application form. Usually the Parent Interview and student Shadow Visit take place on the same day.
     
  • International Students

    St. Andrew's accepts applications from international students and does offer I-20 Forms for students who are accepted and enrolled. As a day school, St. Andrew's does not organize housing nor do we allow students to live with host families that are not parents or legal guardians.
