Physics Students Teach Preschoolers Engineering

Upper Schoolers studying physics accompanied their teacher, Dan Latreille, to The Rise School this month to work with preschoolers on some engineering concepts.
Joelle Dahboul ‘19 demonstrated a Makey Makey and how completing a circuit with humans is possible. They played a "piano" with the children serving as the "keys." (Watch a video clip here).

Truman Cunningham ‘20 showed off his radio. He built a circuit with an exposed circuit board. “When he turned it on and they heard radio stations, their faces lit up!” said Dan.

John Fontenot ‘20 showed his echo locator. He compared this with dolphins, which the kids knew about already, and then measured how tall each kid was.

Joelle, Truman, and John also helped the pre-schoolers build bracelets that represented a color code of their numerical birthdate. “Overall, this was an awesome experience for both the high schoolers and pre-schoolers,” Dan remarked.
