Upper School Retreats: Building Community

Upper School Retreats are an important kick-off to the school year for our 9-12th graders.  The Classes of 2020 and 2023 spent two days at Camp Balcones Springs, bonding independently as freshmen and seniors and then together, with Seniors peer-mentoring the newest Upper School class of freshmen. On Thursday and Friday, Aug 22nd and 23rd, our 10th and 11th graders participated in their class retreats on campus.  Sessions included topics such as substance abuse, distracted driving, consent, mental health, gender, sexual, relationship & diversity topics, as well as yoga, Tai Chi, and the Importance of Play with Maria Brummer and Tom Costas!

These retreats help students unite and have fun together as a class, provide opportunities for important life lessons, and help everyone prepare for the coming school year!
