5th Grade Fall Play: Capture the Moon

5th Grade actors are in full swing preparing for the Fall play, Capture the Moon, by Ernest Joselovitz and Harry Bagdasian.  The story is based on the traditional Yiddish tales of Chelm, spotlighting a poor, fantastical village's humorous attempt to solve a streetlighting problem by capturing the moon and harnessing moonlight. The Chelmites undertake a journey through the surrounding Christian countryside in search of the moon at its lowest point on the horizon, and through the process, come to understand difference and the power of imagination.

In preparation for the play, Theater students visited a local synagogue, Agudas Achim, where they talked with the Rabbi and learned more about Jewish history and culture.  We are grateful to Rabbi Neil Blumofe for his hospitality and support in our learning process.

Mr. Mayers’ Percussion class is composing and performing original music for the play, adding magic and depth to what will surely be a wonderful show!

Capture the Moon will be performed at the Nazro Lab Theater on the Southwest Parkway Campus.
All students will attend the performance during the school day on November 5th.
Families and the public are invited on Wednesday, Nov. 6th at 7 p.m.
