Former Brown Bear Maeve Flaherty To Lead Girls Lacrosse Program
Former Brown University player Maeve Flaherty has been named the program coordinator and head varsity girls lacrosse coach for the Highlanders of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
Flaherty, who hails from Wesport, Conn., was an attack/midfielder for the Brown Bears program before a career-ending knee injury sidelined her.
A four-sport athlete at Staples High School, Flaherty played lacrosse all four years along with volleyball for two, indoor track for three, and a year with the cross country squad.
On the high school lacrosse field she garnered a large and impressive number of honors, including two Second Team All-FCIAC selections. She would go on to follow up those feats with two First All-FCIAC and All-State spots.
In addition, the lacrosse First Team All-American got it done on the track as she, along with her teammates, set the Staples High School record in the 4x400 indoor track season.
"Having someone with Maeve's multi-sport playing experience, as well as her high level lacrosse playing and coaching experience, will serve as great inspiration and leadership for our girls' lacrosse program," said Director of Athletics, Jeff McCrary. "Her background as a multi-sport athlete in high school, combined with her understanding of what it means to be a true student-athlete, made Maeve the perfect fit for our program. We are excited to have her joining the St. Andrew's family, and look forward to the upcoming season and beyond."
Her athletic skills were only matched by success in the classroom for which she earned three spots on the Honor Roll. In addition, Flaherty has coached in both the independent school world at Moses Brown School (Providence, RI), as well as the club/camp scene with New Lax Club, and Brown University summer camp.
