Navy Captain David Koss To Address Boys Lacrosse Team
On February 24, the Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team will welcome United States Navy Captain David Koss to address the program.
Captain Koss was commissioned in May 1991 upon graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Ocean Physics.
The former college boxer and decorated military member will address the players on his experiences in facing adversity, and how it transcends to the current world situation and specifically the upcoming season.
Captain Koss also spent time as a lead pilot of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, commonly known as the Blue Angels (click for showcase video). These F/A-18 Hornet planes gain speeds of 700 miles per hour while staying as close as 18 inches to their fellow aircrafts.
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat V (two awards), Strike Flight Air Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Joint Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), LT Charles Nelson and LCDR Mike Longardt leadership awards, and numerous other campaign and service awards.
His first-ever post was at Cecil Field, the former naval air station in Jacksonville, Florida before going on to make stops in Fallon, Nevada, Aiea, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Pentagon.
He has accumulated over 740 carrier arrested landings and over 3,700 flight hours in the FA-18C and FA-18E/F aircraft.
Presently, Captain Koss is the Chairperson of the Naval Science Department and Commanding Officer of the ROTC unit at the University of Texas.
