Middle School Band Students Earn Coveted Spots in Region Honor Band

On January 30, three outstanding St. Andrew's Middle School Band students auditioned for the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region Band.  More than 200 7th and 8th grade students from twenty five different Central Texas schools competed for spots in the prestigious Region Honor Band.
These students spent months learning several scales and two audition etudes for the audition.  These auditions are usually live, but with Covid, each student had to submit a recording of these pieces which was subsequently judged by a panel of 5 judges.  All three students earned a spot in the Region Band.  This is the eighth time that St. Andrew’s has placed students in the band.  These fantastic musicians are Major Jaimes ‘25, 2nd chair out of 8 euphoniums; Alex Stumpf ‘25, 11th chair, and Wyatt Torres ‘25, 14th chair out of 43 clarinets.

This is an incredible accomplishment against some tough, experienced competition.  The hope is for the students to perform a concert with the other all-star musicians who made the band in late March at the beautiful Bastrop Wilhelm Performing Arts Center.

Congratulations to these outstanding musicians for their hard work and great accomplishment!
