Boys Lacrosse Receives Two USA Lacrosse Awards

Senior Cade Kilbride has been named a USA Lacrosse Academic All-American for the 2021 season.

Kilbride, who has been a starting defender since his freshman year with numerous accolades picked up along the way, matched those high marks in the classroom with a cumulative high school-ending 4.0 GPA.

In addition, the Austin native was a three-sport athlete in football and basketball during this past school year as well as a Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) All-State selection.

He will be attending Lafayette College (PA) in the fall as the schools’ first-ever NCAA Division I lacrosse player, but not before he plays in the upcoming Central Texas Lacrosse Senior All-Star Game.

A boys' and girls' All-Academic honoree is a player who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.

After recently receiving the THSLL Central Texas Class C Coach of the Year Award last month, Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach Josh Blumenthal was bestowed the additional honor of USA Lacrosse Central Texas Coach of the Year.

The New York native completed his fifth year at the helm, leading his squad to a 10-win season, which included a THSLL semifinal district appearance, and a tie for second place in the Southwest Preparatory Conference.

In addition, he served as head coach to both middle school teams, helped mentor two NCAA-bound players (Kilbride and Sawyer Staloch '21), and was selected as a coach in the Central Texas Senior All-Star Game for which six players will participate.

These USA Lacrosse Awards (formerly US Lacrosse) mark the fourth time in the same number of years for the Highlanders, with previous recipients Ethan Hanna '20 (Bob Scott Award) and Stewart Lerner '18 (Academic All-American).
