Trey Morin Named 5th-12th Boys Basketball Program Director

(Austin, TX) – St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Head of Upper School Ben Courchesne and Director of Athletics Jeff McCrary jointly announce the hiring of Trey Morin as the next 5th through 12th grade Boys Basketball Program Director.  In addition, Morin will serve as an Admissions Administrative Assistant.
"I am incredibly pleased that Trey is joining the St. Andrew's family," McCrary stated. "His experiences as a player, assistant coach, and most recently as a head coach were all things that initially drew us to Trey.  However, the more we got to know him and heard references about him, it was clear that Trey can take our boys basketball program to new heights."

Morin has served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach since 2019 at the Phelps School in Malvern, Pennsylvania. During that time, he also served as the Assistant Director of Admissions.

In Morin's first season, Phelps made the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) semifinals, guiding his team to a record of 17-11. Seven seniors from that year's team went on to play collegiate basketball.

In his second season in Malvern, Morin led the Lions to an 18-7 record during a COVID-19 shortened season.  Despite all of the collegiate recruiting challenges that came from that, Morin was able to assist eight seniors in their quest to play basketball at the next level. That included Sam Onu, a Rivals Top 100 player who signed with The University of Memphis in the fall.

Additionally, Morin was able to develop student athletes that matriculated to play at some of the best colleges in the country including The University of Chicago, Emory University, Bowdoin College, Connecticut College, and Virginia Military Institute.

"Trey is a school person who understands how to relate to young people and push them to reach their potential, which he has demonstrated as a coach and school administrator at one of the East Coast's basketball powers," Courchesne remarked. "We are excited for him to build on Coach McCrary's strong foundation."

Prior to his time at Phelps, Morin served as an assistant coach at Bates College in the prestigious NESCAC conference, arguably the best combination of athletics and academics in the country.  While there, Morin oversaw the recruitment and database management of high-academic athletes, controlled all video related aspects of the program, and was responsible for much of the opponent scouting and game plan implementation.

Morin also served as the Facilities Coordinator at Bates, overseeing 50 student workers and was responsible for three buildings and five fields within the athletics' department.

Before his time at Bates, Morin also served as an assistant coach at Colby-Sawyer College and Bradford Christian Academy. He was also the Co-Director of the New England Playmakers AAU program.

Morin played basketball collegiately at Salem State University in Massachusetts.  Following that, Coach Morin was a Graduate Assistant at Merrimack College, while also serving as the school's Athletics Operations Coordinator.

“I would like to thank Jeff McCrary, Ben Courchesne, and the entire St. Andrew's School community for the opportunity to join them in Austin," Morin shared. "It became clear to me through the process that St. Andrew's is a student-focused, forward-thinking institution. I look forward to continuing the success of the program's past and building relationships with all students in and out of the gym.”

A virtual welcome meeting for Coach Morin will be held in the near future.
