Q&A with Coach Chris Delfausse

Chris Delfausse

We are excited to have Delfausse join us as the 5th-12th Boys Lacrosse Program Director. Most recently, Delfausse has served as the Lake Travis Varsity Head Coach and Youth Director from 2018 through the 2021 season. His 2021 team achieved the #7 ranking in the State and also made the State quarterfinals. Prior to his time at Lake Travis, Delfausse headed up the Westlake program from 2013 to 2018, working as both the Varsity Head Coach and Youth Director.
Why did you choose SAS?
SAS has a great reputation for academics, arts, and student development. So, the opportunity to work directly with all students, not just athletes, while helping to develop the athletics program was something I did not want to pass up. With lacrosse still a club sport in Texas I’m thrilled to work at a school that treats it as a school sport and is fully integrated into the school fabric. I can’t wait to get the Austin community excited about SAS lacrosse.

What inspired you to coach?
I have always enjoyed working with youth and having an impact in their lives. I’ve found that working within athletics is one of the best ways to build meaningful relationships and see the long term growth of each student. I love being part of that process.

What is your favorite memory from your high school sports experience?
In general I remember high school sports more for the relationships and off the field camaraderie we had.  But for on the field, it was likely winning our first sectional title in school history. The combination of accomplishing a school first and the manner in which it happened, with an OT win, was a great memory.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
Learning more about SAS and engrossing myself in the school and community.
