St. Andrew's Day 2021

St. Andrew's Day is one of our most beloved community days of the year. After celebrating virtually last year, coming together to honor our patron saint as a community in person was all the more special.
Our K-12 students, faculty, trustees, parents, and alumni gathered on the field of Beck Stadium on November 17 for the beloved St. Andrew's Day tradition of honoring our patron saint, recognizing outstanding members of our community, and breaking bread together.

Blessed with a beautiful sunny Texas day, guests heard from newly appointed Head of School, Melissa Grubb, as the ceremony's honored speaker. Mrs. Grubb then presented the traditional St. Andrew's Day awards honoring an outstanding member of our community with the Charles Alan Wright Excellence Award, an alumnus with the Outstanding Alumni Award, notable volunteers in our community with the John and Jeanine Miller Volunteer Award, and three faculty members with the Lucy Collins Nazro Faculty Service Award and the Outstanding Teacher Awards. We also recognized faculty for years of service for both 2020 and 2021. A list of the award winners can be found below.

Before moving into the Eucharist portion of the service, Mrs. Grubb took a moment to honor St. Andrew's beloved faculty member and alumna, Lauren Dill '04, who we tragically lost on November 10, 2021. At the request of Lauren's parents, Larry and Peggy, who provided a generous seed donation, Mrs. Grubb announced the Lauren Dill Memorial Scholarship Fund which will support students in perpetuity. St. Andrew's Latin teacher and college counselor Jennie Luongo, a dear friend and colleague of Lauren's, along with senior leadership officers of the Latin Club, came forward to accept the plaque for this beautiful and fitting tribute to Lauren who cared so deeply for all her students.

Following the awards portion of the service, students, faculty and families came forward to receive communion or a blessing before everyone made their way to the Nazro Green for a community lunch and performances from the Upper School jazz and rock band classes.

After lunch, students at all three divisions took part in a service activity of their choice. Activities ranged from  31st Street students making birdseed cakes and writing letters to soldiers at Ft. Hood to Upper School students packing lunches for the Ronald McDonald House or learning about ways to volunteer in the community with locals nonprofits like Austin Pets Alive! After a wonderful service, celebration and meal it was the perfect way to round out a day of honoring Saint Andrew.

We are so grateful for the kind, generous and loving community of St. Andrew's. Seeing it on display during events like St. Andrew's Day brings us such joy! Click here for photos for this wonderful day!
