9th Graders Present Original Research at Biology Symposium

Ninth grade biology has a new look this year! A project-based approach to curriculum has students designing and performing their own experiments and research using the scientific method and teacher guidance. The results were revealed at the Biology Symposium in chapel on January 30-31, streamed live on Facebook! (Click here to see the archived Symposium footage on Facebook).
There was no shortage of topic variety. Biology teacher Dina Tucker noted topics like, “Behavior, which was a big one, from training goldfish to circadian rhythms, as was plant biology, bioluminescent bacteria, and especially the effects of sleep (or lack thereof) on learning, memory, and reaction time. Pretty cool stuff!

Students will complete a final round of presentations in the spring; the theme will be “sustainability.”
