MS Civics Fair Draws Many SAS Parents, Faculty

This year parents, faculty, and students swarmed the Middle School hallways to get a peek at the eighth grade's final Project Citizen presentations. Project Citizen challenges eighth-graders to spend the spring trimester finding solutions to local or national issues of their choice through intensive research and interviews. Their tremendous efforts culminated in live presentations at the second annual Civics Fair in Dell Hall on May 15. Click here to see the Project Citizen Civics Fair photos.
This year, students interviewed prominent individuals all over the city and country. Just a few examples include:
  • A group researching the ease of owning an electric car in Austin went for a tour and interview at Tesla
  • A group looking into bringing a professional sports franchise to Austin interviewed the head of the Austin Sports Commission
  • A young man investigating road safety in his neighborhood interviewed the Mayor of Rollingwood
  • A group looking at issues with city planning in Austin conducted an interview with one of the leaders of the Mopac construction project
  • A group focusing on the euthanization of unadopted animals took a trip to a shelter in San Antonio for a visit and interview
