Five MS Band Students Make Region Band

Danny Schmidt, MS Band Director
On Saturday, December 5, five St. Andrew's Middle School Band students traveled to Smithville to audition for the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region Band. More than 400 seventh and eighth grade students from 23 different central Texas schools competed for spots in the prestigious Region Band.
After a full day at Smithville High School auditioning for a panel of five judges, all five students earned a spot in the Region Band.  This is the sixth year in a row that St. Andrew’s has placed students in the band, and it is the highest 100 percent success rate in the school’s history.  Students making the band were Maja Urban '22, earning first chair out of 54 flutes; Fiona Ing ‘23 earning first chair out of two oboes; Antonio Flores ‘22, earning third chair out of 49 alto saxophones; TJ Jobe ‘23, earning tenth chair out of 52 trumpets; and Millie Barnstone ‘23, earning third chair out of eight tenor saxophones.

This is quite an amazing accomplishment against some tough, experienced competition.  These students will perform a concert with the other all-star musicians who made the band on Saturday, December 16 at 5:00 pm in the beautiful Bastrop Wilhelm Performing Arts Center.  Congratulations to these outstanding musicians for their hard work and great accomplishment!
