Eagle Scouts Shepherd ‘19, Tobias ‘18 Honored at State Capitol
Eleven Eagle Scouts from Troop 5 —including St. Andrew’s students Benjamin Shepherd ‘19 and Matthew Tobias ‘18 —were honored on February 25 at the State Capitol in the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, the highest recognition a Scout can receive. To achieve Eagle Scout, these young men had to earn 21 merit badges spanning leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and complete a service project that benefits the community.
Matthew says, “Becoming an Eagle Scout is my proudest achievement. I have been a Scout since I was six years old when I joined the Cub Scout troop at my local church. I worked to get my Eagle for over seven years, juggling Scouting, schoolwork, and St. Andrew's athletics and theater the whole time. I am so happy that my years of work and commitment have payed off.” Matthew adds, “I sincerely recommend that anyone who is interested in Scouting look into their local troops and find the one that fits them because each troop is different and has its own personality. I have learned so much from the Boy Scouts of America and could not thank all of the Scouts and Leaders enough for all of their help on my journey to Eagle.”
Thanks to our US Assistant Athletic Director, Josh Blumenthal, who was in attendance and shared his photos and videos with us! LS/MS Band Director Danny Schmidt also took part in the ceremony as a member of the Troop 5 Music Ensemble with a beautiful rendition of our national anthem.
