Former Syracuse Star Captain Thorpe Takes Girls Lacrosse Reins

Former Syracuse University star Ella Thorpe has been named the program coordinator and head varsity girls lacrosse coach for the Highlanders of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.

Thorpe, who hails from Elbridge, N.Y., has spent the past two years on the coaching staff of nearby powerhouse Westlake High School. In addition, she continues her work with one of the most recognizable club programs in the state, Iron Horse.
"I would like to thank Jeff McCrary for this opportunity," Thorpe said. "I look forward to working with these student-athletes to help them develop and grow on and off the field. I couldn’t be more excited to share my passion for the game of lacrosse with the St. Andrew's family."

During her time on the field for the Orange of Syracuse, she served as team captain while leading her team to four NCAA Division I Final Four appearances, during which time her squad captured Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference championships.

Thorpe was also successful in the classroom, earning a spot on the Big East All-Academic Team, ACC All-Academic Team, and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

"Having someone with Ella's playing pedigree at Syracuse University, as well as her time on the sidelines at Westlake, immediately takes our girls lacrosse program to another level," said Director of Athletics, Jeff McCrary. "Additionally, her background as a multi-sport athlete in high school, combined with her understanding of what it means to be a true student-athlete, made Ella the perfect fit for our program. We are excited to have her joining the St. Andrew's family, and we look forward to the program that Ella will build."
