Matt Byrd Named New Head Swim Coach/Program Coordinator

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is excited to announce the promotion of Matt Byrd as Head Swim Coach. Additionally, Missy Kuck will re-join the program as Assistant Swim Coach.

Byrd takes over the program from Bo Hickey, who moved away from the Austin area.
The former NCAA Division I swimmer, Byrd began recently working with the Austin Aquatics and Sports Academy as both a Master’s Level and Age Group Swim Coach.

Prior to his work at the AASA, the Maryland native has held a variety of different coaching positions, most notably with the Machine Aquatics and Nations Capital Swim Clubs.

He was a senior captain of his University of North Carolina-Wilmington Swim Team before spending time with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).

The avid tri-athlete completed his master’s degree at Georgetown University.

"I want to thank Jeff McCrary for the opportunity to join the St. Andrew's athletic department. Using my personal swimming career and coach experiences, I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for swimming with the student athletes and help them achieve their goals in and out of the pool," Byrd said.

Kuck swam at the Ohio State University in college where she was team Captain for two years and competed at National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and United States Nationals. For the last 20 years, Kuck has competed in triathlons and currently holds her Professional/Elite triathlete card.

Kuck has assisted in the reintegration process with the Wounded Warrior Regiment at Camp Pendleton for the past four years as an assistant swimming and multisport coach at Marine Corps Trials, Warrior Games, and the Invictus Games in London.

“Following a record-setting 2017-18 season, we are excited to continue the strong surge forward with Coach Byrd at the helm,” said Athletic Director Jeff McCrary. “Combined with the accolades and coaching style of Coach Kuck, this will continue our upward trend for our swimming program.”
