Blessing of the Pets

All creatures great and small were gathered on campus on Friday, October 5 for the annual Blessing of the Pets. This favorite school tradition is held each year in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals. Students in grades K-2 and their parents gathered on the field with their beloved pets (or pictures of them) to receive a blessing from LS/MS Chaplain Ashley Brandon. Each student also received a certificate for their pet, which reads:
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord God, and all your creatures! Amen.

Many thanks to volunteer photographer Shawn Tyson (parent of Sophia '30) for capturing the event! See the Blessing of the Pets 2018 album on SmugMug here - download your favorites for free or order prints.
