MS Students Make Region Band, Barnstone Sits 1st Chair

By Danny Schmidt, LS/MS Band Director
Seven St. Andrew's Middle School Band students competed with over 400 region middle schoolers for a spot on the prestigious Association of Texas Small School Bands Region Band on November 10.
After a full day at Smithville High School auditioning for a panel of five judges, five St. Andrew's students earned a spot in the Region Band.  This is the seventh year in a row that St. Andrew’s has placed students in the band.

Additionally, three of these students placed in the band for the second year in a row.  They are:
Millie Barnstone '23, 1st chair out of 10 tenor saxophones,
Fiona Ing '23, 2nd chair out of 4 oboes, and
TJ Jobe '23, 25th chair out of 72 trumpets.

Two students placed in the band for the first time this year. They are:
Grayson Coffin '24, 11th chair out of 78 clarinets, and
Jackson Harshbarger '23, 20th chair out of 78 clarinets.

Twenty-five different central Texas schools were represented at the annual event. This is quite an amazing accomplishment against some tough, experienced competition.  These students will perform a concert with the other all-star musicians who made the band on Saturday, December 1 at 5:00 pm in the beautiful Bastrop Wilhelm Performing Arts Center.  Congratulations to these outstanding musicians for their hard work and great accomplishment!
