Planning for St. Andrew's 2020 - 2021

Our Goal for the ’20-’21 School Year

Our work continues in earnest as we actively plan for the fall. Our ultimate goal is to be together again on campus – as quickly and as safely as possible. After all, St. Andrew’s thrives on our community and connectedness.

While we worked hard to maintain that sense of community during Home Learning this past spring, we know that in-person teaching and learning is better for everyone -- for our students, their families and our teachers. We also know that socialization - be it on the playground, during lunch, in chapel, in between classes, at recess – or the countless other ways it happens throughout the school day - is a critical part to the formation and personal happiness of our students.

We’ve all grieved the loss from this time of physical separation and are focused on a strategy that prioritizes being together, even if it has to be in a slightly different way than what we’ve done before. But we must do it safely and intentionally, to minimize risk and keep our community healthy.

Next Steps
Schools across the country are all facing these circumstances and uncertainties. As we work through the various scenarios for a fall re-opening, we will be in touch frequently to update you and get your input. Recent parent survey results are published on this page and there will be more parent surveys in the coming weeks to continue gathering important data and input from our families and faculty.
In the meantime, we wish you a safe and healthy summer. We will be working faithfully over these next few months to provide the very best, and safest, opportunities to come together as a learning community in the fall. We remain very thankful for this St. Andrew’s community, and for the work we are doing together.

Task Forces and Parent Advisory Committee

Our nine Institutional Task Forces, led by key faculty and staff, are actively focusing on how campus classrooms and community spaces can be best utilized for each scenario, how teaching and learning—including athletics and fine arts - can be successful in each scenario, how our community can stay connected to each other and to our Episcopal Identity, how technology can support each student and family, how our SEL, Human Resources and Wellness services can best support our students, families, faculty and staff, how we can maintain financial sustainability in the near and long-term, and how we can provide the best health and safety protocols and preparations for everyone.

The Board Task Force, comprised of Trustees and a Parent Advisory Committee, will be reviewing and providing input and expertise on the three scenario work plans in coordination with the Institutional Task Force committees and Head of School Sean Murphy.  Additionally, a special task force focused on Athletics is convening to evaluate the feasibility of the fall calendar  and team sports.
