Senior Athletes Honored in Special Ceremony

St. Andrew’s honored our accomplished senior athletes in a special ceremony during Upper School chapel services on April 22. Director of Athletics Jeff McCrary recognized two seniors who will continue to compete in college next year, as well as four seniors who have been named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Academic All-State Team.

It is tradition at St. Andrew’s to have athletes signing Division I letters of intent to do so in chapel, and we honored Scott Politz (Yale signee, baseball) earlier in the year. Yesterday, we recognized two athletes who are going on to play at Division II or III schools.

Congratulations to Ally Sherwood, who will run cross-country and track for Sewanee, and to Brian Wongchotigul, who will run cross-country and track for Trinity University! Jeff remarks, “This is an amazing opportunity for these two, and it is a reward for all of their hard work, practice, and sacrifice over the years.”

In addition, we recognized a record number of seniors who were named to the TABC Academic All-State team: Congratulations to Lucy Jones, Megan Kamm, Cameron Pepe, and Marina Smalling! The requirements for receiving the award are to be a graduating senior, a Varsity letter winner in basketball, and to have a 92 grade average or better. For all private schools in the state of Texas, there were 22 girls and 19 boys to receive this recognition.

St. Andrew’s is proud to recognize these student athletes for their dedication to their athletic and academic endeavors. You’ve worn the blue-and-white well! Good luck as you prepare to graduate, and…Go Cru!
