St. Andrew’s Homecoming Traditions Include New Twists

St. Andrew’s Homecoming on Friday, September 16 was filled with “firsts.” It was the first all-school event with the new kindergarten class in attendance. Families and faculty enjoyed a food truck picnic, face painting, and games on the lawn before kick-off. Kindergartners joined first-graders and seniors on the field for the St. Andrew’s Spirit Tunnel to welcome their Crusader football team to the field.
For the first time, St. Andrew’s also hosted an official pre-game alumni reception. Alumna Anne Fish ’79 flew in from Jackson, Wyoming for the event, saying, “I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to re-connect.” Alumni of all ages reminisced with faculty over yearbooks, a slideshow, and a catered dinner made with ingredients from the St. Andrew’s garden.

St. Andrew’s Varsity Football faced their first contest against Casady School, with Head Coach Taylor Stewart remarking prior to the contest, “"This match-up is one of the more intriguing [games] we will have under the new Southwest Preparatory Conference football alignment, as Casady represents the sole remaining member in the state of Oklahoma. I am honored for us to host this excellent school and program while looking forward to cultivating our own Red River Rivalry of sorts in the coming years."

Under the Friday nights, the score changed hands on quite a few occasions.  With a tied halftime score, followed by a scoreless third quarter, the final frame offered tons of excitement on both sides of the ball.  The contest included music, give-a-ways, cheerleading performances, and best of all, a packed house inside of Beck Stadium. The football team offered the crowd of Crusader supporters a back-and-forth game which will yield the squad continued success.

At half-time, St. Andrew’s named their 2016 Homecoming Court: Seniors Lily Kincannon and Jorge Alzaga were named Homecoming Queen and King, with their court including juniors Olivia Jacobsson and Matthew Tobias, sophomores Marisa Washington and Jack Williams, and freshmen Paige Ziebert and Chelan Beavers.

Coach Stewart summarized the evening perfectly: “Homecoming has traditionally been a wonderful experience during my six seasons at St. Andrew's.  Regardless of the success garnered on the field, all different ages and walks of life within our community came out to support this occasion and our young men competed in the climatic event of the night."
