PSAT/SAT REVIEW
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
July 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, and 27 (Saturday Test on 21st)
The SAT and PSAT are important parts of the college admissions process. To help students maximize their scores, St. Andrew’s offers a preparatory class to review for these exams. In the past five years, students taking this course, taught by St. Andrew’s Upper School teachers, bettered their scores by an average of well over 100 points. Exceptional students have improved by more than 400 points!
SAT/PSAT Review meets weekday evenings and one Saturday morning in July plus three Saturdays in the fall for brush-up classes. The brush-up classes are timed to occur just before the SAT and PSAT test dates. Students may sign up for a Verbal, Math or Combination Option. All sessions are held at the Southwest Parkway Campus.
The program includes expert instruction and practice testing under proctored conditions, plus one hour of individual tutoring for each option taken. Students are given the skills necessary for success in test taking and provided strong verbal and math reinforcement. To ensure that they obtain the maximum benefit of the program, students should expect to spend at least 3-4 hours per week in July doing homework related to each option (6-8 hours if taking both Verbal and Math).
The class is fast paced but thorough, covering the same material as other commercial prep classes:vocabulary, reading, grammar, timed essay writing, geometry, algebra, “grid-in” questions, etc. Students will be completely prepared for the new (since 2005) format of the SAT. In addition, detailed knowledge of the test writers and the test will help students relax and have the right attitude about this daunting exam.
St. Andrew’s students must be entering grades 11 or 12. Students who do not attend St. Andrew’s during the school year must have completed grade 10 or 11 and have finished a full year of high school geometry and a full year of high school algebra. They must also have taken a real or practice SAT or PSAT before the class begins. (Contact the instructors for information about a free practice exam.) Scores must be submitted at the time of registration. Each section is strictly limited to 22 students. Registrations received by May 6 will be guaranteed space. After May 6, students will be accepted on a space available basis, with preference given to those requesting the Combination Option.
COURSE OPTIONS:
PSAT/SAT Prep - Verbal and Math Combination
Total of 25 hours of instruction plus two practice tests
PSAT/SAT Prep - Verbal Only
Total of 12.5 hours of instruction plus two practice tests
PSAT/SAT Prep - Math Only
Total of 12.5 hours of instruction plus two practice tests
Students who take “Math Only” or “Verbal Only” will come each night but stay for half the time. Students will be split into sections after a pretest.
| DAYS | DATES | TIMES |
| MWF | July 6 – July 27 | 5:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
|
All students will take a practice test on Saturday, July 21 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Practice test 2 and the two brush-up classes will be scheduled in late September or early October. Individual tutoring will be arranged between the instructor and student.
