First Day of School 2020
Though our first day of school will look different than it has in the past, we are excited to be able to see as many students as possible on campus to kick off the new year! On this page, you'll find details on our celebrations for each division.

Lower School
Please join us on August 19 to celebrate the first day of school, wave hello to your teachers, and pose for a first day photo op!
Parents must wear a mask at all times. Students can be unmasked for photo op only. Sibling families with Lower and Middle school students can use both driveways as desired, or just use one for picture opportunities.

Grades 1-5
8:30 - 9:10: Last names A-G
9:10 - 9:50: Last names H-M
9:50 - 10:30: Last names N-R
10:30 - 11:10: Last names S-Z
Since 31st Street is a public, two-way street, we need to be mindful of how we line and the route we take. Please adhere to these directions so that we do not create traffic issues.
Arriving: Please arrive on campus by turning onto Bailey Lane from 34th Street, follow Bailey Lane then turn right onto Wabash, and finally turn right onto 31st Street, and drive to the entrance of Driveway #1 (do not enter Driveway #1 until your car is signaled to do so). Do not block any entrances or exits to the school's parking lots and driveways along the route.
Exiting: All cars will turn right out of Driveway #1 and exit campus at 34th Street.
Faculty will line the driveway to wave to and welcome your student!
Kindergarten:
Kindergarten families will enter the Wabash parking lot for the kindergarten parade, supply pick up, and photo opportunities. Kindergarten will have its own photo opportunity, along with kinder teachers welcoming students and families during homeroom-specific windows on Wednesday morning. Following the kinder pickup and photo opportunity, kinder families are free to participate in the parade or leave the 31st Street Campus area.

If participating in the 1-8 Parade, families should exit right onto 32nd street and take a left onto Wabash to join the general parade route.

If leaving the 31st Street Campus, families should exit the Wabash lot right onto 32nd toward Lamar to go South, or Straight on Medical Parkway to go North, West, or East at 34th Street.

Upper School
Please join us on August 19 for a First Day Kickoff and Pickup Event!
The first day of school will be a day of both virtual and in-person connection: we will have virtual Opening of School from 9-11 am and from 3-6 pm, there will be an opportunity to come to campus to pick up your Highlander yard sign at the DFAC driveway, snap a first-day selfie at the Garvey Gates, and pick up other school supplies (including your 2019-20 yearbook) at the gym.
Parents must wear a mask at all times. Students can be unmasked for photo op only. Please make a simple sign for your car dashboard (with marker and paper) with your student's Last Name, First Name, Graduation Year to make supply pickup go smoothly!
