Upper School Head, Todd Stephenson, retiring after 19 years of service to SAS
After nearly 20 years of faithful service to our Upper School, Dr. Todd Stephenson, our Head of Upper School, announced on Wednesday that he intends to retire from St. Andrew's at the end of this school year.
A father of four and graduate of Brown University, Todd has been a history teacher almost his entire career, beginning at Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California. He was hired at St. Andrew’s in 2000 to teach history and advise students at our newly formed Upper School, and for 19 years he witnessed the student body expand from just 60 students to more than 400 today. In 2004 he took over as History Department Chair, leading a department with five full-time faculty members and a diverse history and humanities program. He began his tenure as Upper School Head in 2013.
Head of School Sean Murphy has launched a national search for a new Upper School Head and families will be kept informed of the school’s progress. In the meantime, if you see Dr. Stephenson on campus, we hope you’ll thank him for time well spent and served at the Upper School and wish him Godspeed for his many adventures ahead.
