On Saturday, October 22nd, 18 eighth grade students joined with parents and MS faculty members to paint the exterior of a family home in East Austin.
The event is organized each year by iACT, a local Austin organization dedicated to fostering understanding among different religious and ethnic backgrounds while also reaching out to help families in the community. The group gathered at 9am to paint, listen to music, dance, and get to know each other better. Meeting the homeowner was a highlight–Rachel had a moving story to tell of struggle, compassion for others, and ultimately finding family in the midst of immense hardships. It was a privilege to hear her story and get to help her maintain her home. Many thanks to all the student participants, faculty volunteers, and parents who contributed snacks/drinks and joined in the project! We hope to participate in another painting event in the spring!
