Celebrating the 2025 St. Andrew’s Day Award-Winners
The entire community gathered this November for the first St. Andrew’s Day celebration in Highlander Hall to observe, recognize and celebrate the extraordinary people across our community who shape the life of St. Andrew’s School every day.
On November 19, 2025, Lower, Middle and Upper School students — along with families, faculty and staff — came together at our Southwest Parkway campus for a meaningful Eucharist service filled with music, bagpipes, prayer, and recognition of those who make our community shine. Notably, this year was the first St. Andrew’s Day celebration and Eucharist that took place inside of Highlander Hall, our new Athletics Complex and Student Union that opened this fall.
“Today, as we honor our past and celebrate our present, I have the privilege of presenting several of our school’s most meaningful recognitions: the Outstanding Alumni Award, the Jeannine and John C. Miller Volunteer Award, the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards, the Lucy Collins Nazro Faculty Service Award, and our 15- and 25-year service awards,” said Head of School, Melissa Grubb, addressing the Highlander community. “It’s a long list - and a beautiful reminder of the extraordinary people who shape the life of St. Andrew’s every day.”
Outstanding Alumni Award
This year, St. Andrew’s was proud to honor Catherine Osborn ’08 with the 2025 Outstanding Alumni Award! Catherine is a global journalist reporting from Brazil and her work brings clarity and depth to some of Latin America’s most complex stories. Catherine was nominated by her former English teacher, Ms. Kimberly Horne.
“Catherine is one of the finest human beings I have ever met,” said Ms. Horne. “She’s incredibly accomplished and also incredibly humble. She has achieved a great deal at a young age, and one of the coolest moments of my career was driving home from work and hearing her voice on NPR.”
Catherine could not attend the November ceremony in person as she was covering the UN Climate Change Conference in Belem, Brazil, but she accepted the award by video.

The John and Jeannine Miller Volunteer Award
“For nearly seventy-five years, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School has been strengthened and sustained by the unwavering dedication of its volunteers - individuals whose gifts of time, talent, and wholehearted service ensure that our school remains a place of joy, purpose, and belonging. Their generosity embodies the spirit of servant leadership that has long defined the St. Andrew’s way,” said Ms. Grubb. “On this St. Andrew’s Day, we are honored to recognize two extraordinary women whose service has enriched our community in profound and lasting ways.”
The award was named in 2002 for two beloved champions of our school — Jeannine and John C. Miller. The Millers chaired St. Andrew’s Capital Campaign to build the Upper School, the Library on 31st Street as well as the 4th grade classroom building, continued Ms. Grubb.
“Back then they were parents at St. Andrew’s, and it is such a joy to see them now experiencing St. Andrew’s as grandparents to two Lower School students, Emily and Oliver,” she said. “ We are so grateful that they are here with us today, as they have been for decades.”
The John and Jeannine Miller Volunteer Award celebrates volunteers whose devotion has had a transformative impact on St. Andrew’s, according to Ms. Grubb, who called Jeannine and John to the stage to present this year’s award to both Laurel Simmons and Anne Wood.
“This year’s recipients, Laurel Simmons and Anne Wood, exemplify the leadership, faith, humility, and love of community that have guided our school since its founding,” she said.
Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards

Ms. Turelier’s passion, creativity, and dedication have truly transformed the Rollins Library into a hub of discovery and joy for our students, said Ms. Grubb.
Middle School Teaching Award
Ms. Audrey Moreaux ‘09, Middle School Math Interventionist, Math Department Chair and Student Council Sponsor
“Our Middle School Teaching Award recipient has been a steady, joyful, and utterly indispensable presence in our community for the past decade,” said Ms. Grubb. “A proud St. Andrew’s Upper School alum, she has come full circle - once a student in these halls, now a gifted educator shaping the next generation of Highlanders with remarkable dedication and heart.”
Upper School Teaching Award
Mr. Jeff Osborne, Upper School Chemistry Teacher
“All of our faculty are committed to their disciplines and deeply intentional in crafting meaningful classroom experiences. But some teachers have the rare ability to make the most challenging concepts feel accessible and even exciting,” said Head of Upper School, Steven Fletcher, Ph.D. “This instructor consistently brings complex material to life, offering every student - from the most introverted to the most outgoing - an opportunity to shine. His classroom is a model of master teaching.”
Lucy Collins Nazro Faculty Service Award
“This teacher has a heart of gold and is such a beloved member of the St. Andrew’s family. From helping coordinate our long-standing Rhythm Nights and Field Days to coaching and serving others, we are grateful for her servant heart,” said Associate Head of School, Alice Nezzer. “If you haven’t guessed by now, our winner today is Maria Brummer, who has served for 34 years on the P.E. staff on our 31st street campus, teaching and inspiring thousands of students to be their best in body, mind and spirit.”
Ms. Maria Brummer, Lower School PE and Athletics
