Students Make "Top Six" at PSIA State Competition

Congratulations to our seven Lower and Middle School students who competed in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) State competition last weekend at Texas Christian University!

St. Andrew’s was among 94 other elementary and middle schools in Texas that competed in subject areas spanning art, language arts, maps and graphs, math, music, science, and spelling.

A special congratulations to these four St. Andrew’s students, who finished in the Top Six of their respective grade-level subjects.

Creative Writing - Grade 2
Jiya Mutyala - 6th Place

Maps, Graphs and Charts - Grade 4
Camden Werner - 6th Place

Art Memory - Grade 5
Avery Wayne - 2nd Place

Impromptu Speaking - Grade 8
Auveed Rokhsaz - 6th Place

Swapna Mutyala, parent of Jiya, remarks, “I know we are all so proud of our kids…It was great for them to be inspired by so many hard working and accomplished children from across the state.” Colleen Kell, who coordinated St. Andrew’s participation, says, “I very much appreciate all of the help from my friends on the St. Andrew’s faculty and staff. They were so gracious to share their time and talents to help these kids. They made it a joyful experience!”

Last week, in preparation for the weekend competition, Head of Lower School Kama Bruce held a special ceremony in chapel services recognizing the 36 students who competed at the PSIA District meet in March. He and those students together wished the State-bound competitors a heartfelt “good luck!” Clearly, the well wishes worked.

Congratulations to all our students who represented St. Andrew’s so well at the PSIA competitions this year. We’re excited to see more great things come from these students!
