SAS Summer Camp Spotlight: “Young Leaders Institute”

Scott Zimmerman (Dir. Social Emotional Learning)
Are leaders born, or can leadership be learned? My 18 years of educational experience has taught me that leadership can, most certainly, be taught.  My goal to develop young leaders led me to create a multi-year program—the Young Leaders Institute—to give high school students a chance to define, practice and assess individual growth in this area.
The St. Andrew’s summer camp “Young Leaders Institute - Leadership 101” is the beginning of this three-course journey.  This class is an introduction to leadership and leadership concepts.  This week-long camp will help the students define leadership through a variety of resources like self-assessment, activities, guest speakers, and field trips.  “Leadership 202” will be offered in Summer 2017, and in Summer 2018 the Institute culminates with a capstone class titled "The CEO Project" which helps the students begin the process of starting and running their own organization, non-profit, or school club.

Come join us on the St. Andrew's Upper School campus from June 20th-24th (Week 4 of Summer Camp) to start this exciting journey. Click here to read this camp’s details and register online.  For questions, please contact Scott Zimmerman at szimmerman@sasaustin.org or 512-299-9842.
