Marcus Roper '08 Engagement

Congratulations to Marcus Roper '08 on his engagement! We heard the
"We met 3 summers back on an organized float trip organized by mutual friends.  The two girls that put the event together were best friends & roommates at the time.  I went to college with one, and Natalie with the other.  This float trip was a merging of their friend groups.  After Amazon missed the mark on delivering her Woman Woman swimsuit intended for 4th of July the week prior, Natalie thought this would be a good opportunity to debut her new purchase.  I threw on my Texas flag swim trunks that morning, unaware that, hours later, We would sport the most flamboyant outfits of the group.  Though our festive swimwear is what initially caught the other's eye, it was the chemistry that was formed floating the San Marcos that created a connection.  By the end of the day, I stole Natalie's flip-flop in exchange for her number, and by the end of the weekend we had scheduled our 1st date.  It was very clear early on that this connection went further than a floating companion on the San Marcos; we found ourselves going to concerts all over Austin, riding bikes around Lady Bird Lake, planning day trips out of the city, meeting each other's family, and even a backpacking trip through Europe.  As we quickly approached the anniversary of that initial float, we decided to establish an annual tradition gathering all of our closest friends together to recreate the day we met.  The Floativersary is now a favorite tradition that is coming up on its 2nd iteration.  We hope to establish it as something to be celebrated into our 60's!
Over the course of 2 years we realized the bond we shared had formed into more of a partnership.  We adopted a kitten, Lady Bird, together, and decided there was no longer a need for 2 leases. We scheduled a trip to Fredericksburg to celebrate our recent move and 2-year anniversary.  Before Friday night dinner, on row 20 of the Grape Creek Vineyards I asked Natalie to officially be my wife.  We are overjoyed to take our vows in front of all of our friends and family Spring 2019, but first we have a Floativersary to attend."
