New Theatre Company Debuts at St. Andrew's on Feb. 16
Austin Actors Studio, a professional theatre company dedicated to creating opportunities for young actors to work with professionals, will debut its first production, “The Diviners,” by Jim Leonard, Jr., on Friday, February 16, at 8:00 pm. The performance will be held at the Nazro Theatre on St. Andrew’s Upper School campus located at 5901 Southwest Parkway.
Set in Indiana during the 1930’s, “The Diviners” is a haunting story about the relationship between a wayward preacher and a magical boy. Directed by Milton R. Zoth, the production includes St. Andrew’s students Cason Doyle '18, Becks Konradi '18, Shelby Pomeleo-Fowler '21, Alex Stapleton '18, and Jack Weaver '20.
St. Andrew’s senior Cason Doyle, who plays lead character Buddy Layman, remarks, “This show and cast has brought out the best of me. Working with actors of all ages for the first time has been very beneficial for my growth as an actor. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful show with such an amazing cast, crew, and director.”
St. Andrew’s senior BecksKonradi says, “This is the first time I have had the opportunity to work with both adults and students on a show. I have loved getting to know younger students with whom I would not normally work, as well as the adults. They have been very supportive of the students, and they even came to a different show of ours. I am very proud of the work Milt and our cast has put into the show, and I can’t wait for us to open.” St. Andrew’s sophomore JackWeaver agrees,“It has been a pleasure working with Mr. Zoth, my friends, and all the adults in the cast. I have learned a lot from working with these experienced actors and actresses.”
The show will open February 16 and run through March 4. Evening shows are at 8:00 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Sunday matinees will be held at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased through the Long Center box office. Call the Long Center box office at 512-474-5664 for ticket information.
