6th grader Luke Willis Finds New Ways to Support Local Food Banks

SAS 6th grader Luke Willis used to spend much of his time volunteering at the Micah 6 Food Pantry in Downtown Austin. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic Luke hasn't been able to visit and volunteer like he used to, but that hasn't stopped him from finding a way to help.
Luke learned that donations to the Pantry were down 80% and to help supplement the shortage they were accepting donations for grocery store gift cards and provide support in other ways. Along with donating his own weekly allowance to Micah 6, he started a GoFundMe page asking his community to show their support as well. In just over 6 weeks, Luke raised over $10,000 for the Micah 6 Food Pantry!

He didn't stop there though. Since closing that fundraiser, Luke and some of his neighbors have started a new, fun way to raise money for the Central Texas Food Bank. They hope to get passersby to send a silly photo or video in exchange for a donation to the Food Bank.  If you're looking to have some fun and help a great cause click here for details on how to participate!

Thank you to Luke for being such a thoughtful servant to your community, St. Andrew's is so proud to call you one our own.
