Senior Project

The faculty and administration have always seen the Senior Project as a gift to our students. It came about as a way to demonstrate our belief that plenty of learning can and should happen outside the classroom. In May of their final year, our seniors are uniquely situated to begin a transition that will take them from campus and into the wider world. The Senior Project gives our students the opportunity to follow a dream, fulfill a need in the Austin community, create a work of art, research an area of interest, or in some other way share their talents and energies with a larger community. Special emphasis is put on seniors bringing some sort of finished product into existence over the course of the project.

In January, each senior presents his or her own proposal for a unique project. A faculty member is then assigned to sponsor the senior and provide guidance toward successful completion of this graduation requirement. Faculty sponsors provide basic guidelines and then each senior tailors his or her own experience to meet the criteria. The day before graduation, seniors formally present their projects to the student body and faculty, and their family and friends. These exhibitions provide a meaningful way for seniors to demonstrate their skills and knowledge and to culminate their experience at St. Andrew's.

In the past, our seniors have written and performed original music; created artwork and installed it in children's hospitals; built automobiles; taught second grade; interned in businesses in and beyond Texas; written novels and illustrated children's books; shadowed doctors and observed operations; created entire events or produced original CD's to benefit local charities.
