Uber Exec Talks Career Prep with Students
With AP exams complete and courses winding down, it could be a very hectic time of year or oddly a very calm one depending on the class. Although the looming summer might make some students unmotivated or distracted, teachers are still thinking of ways to engage and reinvigorate students in the classroom -- even during their final class days.
In AP Chemistry, after the beakers received a final polish and chemicals were stored away, teacher Bryan Dunn refocused student attention from chemistry to college. For the final week of classes, he provided students suggestions and tips in crafting their resumes, and discussed different majors and areas of study they might consider.
As part of the experience, students also spoke with Trevor Theunissen, who currently serves as senior manager of public policy and communications at Uber Technologies. He leads the company's government affairs and communications team for a 16-state region including Florida, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
Theunissen spoke about his work in establishing and building Uber's brand and profile with policymakers and the media. He is working to ensure that regulatory frameworks support Uber’s products, including Uber Eats, Uber Freight, Uber Elevate, Uber Health and JUMP bikes and scooters. Beyond his work with Uber, Theunissen shared reflections about his own career path and what students can do now to help guide their decisions.
