7 Middle Schoolers Perform at Bastrop

Danny Schmidt, LS/MS Band Director
Seven outstanding Middle School band students participated in the ATSSB Region 18/26 clinic and concert held at the beautiful Bastrop Performing Arts Center last weekend.  Band students from 23 different area schools comprised two concert bands of over 80 members each.
They met for the first time Friday evening and rehearsed a total of 7 hours that evening and Saturday preparing for their grand finale concert Saturday evening.  It was amazing what they were able to accomplish in that short time together.

These students have so much talent that putting a technically tough program together in such a short time was not only possible, but they performed a spectacular and amazingly musical concert.

These students are not just great musicians, but they were willing to give up two and half days over two weekends to, first, audition and make the Region band, and then practice for an exhaustingly long time preparing for their spectacular performance.

Additionally, they were a blast to hang out with at Chili’s and Buc-ee’s.  People were very complimentary of their mature behavior.

Congratulations to our Region band students:  Jack Bellingrath ‘21, Robert Botkin ‘21, Antonio Flores ’22, Matt Kennedy ‘21, Maddox Kunik ‘21, Emma Schmidt ’21, and Maja Urban ’22.
