Michelle King To Lead Tennis Program

St. Andrew’s is excited to announce the hiring of Michelle King as Head Varsity Tennis Coach. Additionally, King will serve as the tennis program coordinator for grades 5 through 12. She takes over the program from Ryan Hillestad, who led the program for the past three seasons.
Currently, King is the director of the Austin 10’s a private tennis academy. Prior to founding the academy, she had a storied career at Abilene Christian University, winning the NCAA’s Division II Singles Championship and Rolex Doubles Championship. For her efforts she was named outstanding female athlete of the year at ACU, and a finalist for the NCAA Women of the Year award.

Following her time on the collegiate scene, King has continued to play competitively and travel the world for tennis. She won the USTA Gold Slam in doubles, which is awarded to individuals that win all four of the major USTA Championships during the calendar year and was honored for this achievement at the US Open. She has been named to five USTA World Cup teams, representing the United States in the World Team Championships, winning tournaments on all four surfaces; hard, clay, indoor and grass.

“In Michelle King, we have found a true tennis visionary,” Athletic Director Jeff McCrary said. “She will build upon the framework set in place while advancing our program to new heights of greatness.”

Previously King is the former Director of Sports at Lost Creek Country Club, where the varsity team will once again train this spring.

On her appointment King shared that, "I am honored to join the St. Andrew's Athletic Staff and am looking forward to working with our tennis student-athletes. The opportunity to take an established program to the next level is very exciting."
