Mountain ‘18 Youngest Soloist in Bernstein’s Centennial “Mass”

Stone Mountain ‘18 is the youngest of eight soloists selected to perform in Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” on June 29-30, 2018, in honor of the renowned composer’s centennial birthday. According to the event website, Mass will feature over 250 adult and youth singers, dancers, and instrumentalists. Stone says, “It is such an amazing opportunity to get to work with all of these incredible professional performers, and I think all of us hope this concert works as an opportunity to reintroduce younger generations to classical and musical theatre music.”
When asked how he’s preparing for his performance, Stone remarks, “The concert is enormous so it’s going to take a lot of work to memorize and perfect all the different songs. I’ve already started binge listening to a European recording for the show and am working with [St. Andrew’s Upper School Choir Director] Mrs. Gasco to make sure we get everything just right.”

Keep your eyes and ears open for promo performances! Stone sang the ensemble piece “A Simple Song” on a morning radio spot for KMFA in February, and will sing West Side Story’s “Tonight” with soprano Sarajane Mela Daily on KUT radio (90.5) on Tuesday, March 6.
